Dow Jumps Over 600 Points; Amazon Shares Dip After Q4 Results

U.S. stocks traded higher this morning, with the Dow Jones index gaining more than 600 points on Friday.

Following the market opening Friday, the Dow traded up 1.29% to 49,537.77 while the NASDAQ climbed 0.97% to 22,759.56. The S&P 500 also rose, gaining, 1.02% to 6,867.68.

Leading and Lagging Sectors

Information technology shares gained by 2.7% on Friday.

In trading on Friday, consumer discretionary stocks fell by 2.4%.

Top Headline

Amazon.com Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) shares fell around 9% on Friday after the company reported mixed fourth-quarter financial results.

Amazon reported fourth-quarter net sales of $213.39 billion, up 14% year-over-year. The revenue total beat a Street consensus estimate of $211.30 billion, according to Benzinga Pro. The company reported fourth-quarter earnings per share of $1.95, missing a Street consensus estimate of $1.97.

  • CCH Holdings Ltd (NASDAQ:CCHH) shares shot up 49% to $0.57.
  • Shares of Tian Ruixiang Holdings Ltd (NASDAQ:TIRX) got a boost, surging 47% to $0.15.
  • Fly-E Group Inc (NASDAQ:FLYE) shares were also up, gaining 37% to $5.91.

Equities Trading DOWN

  • Carbon Revolution PLC (NASDAQ:CREV) shares dropped 54% to $0.50 after the company announced receipt of delisting determination letter from Nasdaq.
  • Shares of Ernexa Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:ERNA) were down 49% to $0.34 after the company reported pricing of $10.5 million public offering.
  • Founder Group Ltd (NASDAQ:FGL) was down, falling 37% to $0.085 after the company reported a 100 for 1 share combination.

Commodities

In commodity news, oil traded down 0.3% to $63.08 while gold traded up 1.6% at $4,969.10.

Silver traded down 0.8% to $76.075 on Friday, while copper rose 0.4% to $5.8460.

Euro zone

European shares were higher today. The eurozone's STOXX 600 gained 0.6%, while Spain's IBEX 35 Index rose 1.1%. London's FTSE 100 rose 0.4%, Germany's DAX gained 0.8% and France's CAC 40 rose 0.3% during the session.

Asia Pacific Markets

Asian markets closed mostly lower on Thursday, with Japan's Nikkei falling 0.88%, Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index gaining 0.14%, China's Shanghai Composite declining 0.64% and India's BSE Sensex falling 0.60%.

Economics

The US Manheim Used Vehicle Value Index rose 2.4% month-over-month in January following a 0.1% growth in the previous month.
