Nasdaq Gains Over 1%; TJX Posts Upbeat Earnings

U.S. stocks traded higher midway through trading, with the Nasdaq Composite gaining more than 250 points on Wednesday.

The Dow traded up 0.64% to 49,487.76 while the NASDAQ surged 1.12% to 23,118.66. The S&P 500 also rose, gaining, 0.72% to 6,939.94.

Leading and Lagging Sectors

Information technology shares gained by 1.6% on Wednesday.

In trading on Wednesday, industrials stocks fell by 1.4%.

Top Headline

The TJX Companies, Inc. (NYSE:TJX) reported upbeat earnings for the fourth quarter, but issued weak earnings forecast.

The company posted quarterly earnings of $1.43 per share which beat the analyst consensus estimate of $1.39 per share. The company reported quarterly sales of $17.743 billion which beat the analyst consensus estimate of $17.370 billion.

TJX Companies said it sees FY2027 GAAP EPS of $4.93-$5.02, versus market estimates of $5.17.

Equities Trading UP
           

  • XWELL, Inc. (NASDAQ:XWEL) shares shot up 265% to $1.41. The company announced a $31.3 million private placement.
  • Shares of CAVA Group Inc (NYSE:CAVA) got a boost, surging 21% to $82.39 after the company reported better-than-expected quarterly financial results.
  • Acadia Healthcare Company Inc (NASDAQ:ACHC) shares were also up, gaining 23% to $21.20 after the company reported better-than-expected quarterly financial results.

Equities Trading DOWN

  • CASI Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (NASDAQ:CASI) shares dropped 59% to $0.33 as the company received the delisting decision from the Nasdaq Hearings Panel.
  • Shares of Zenvia Inc. (NASDAQ:ZENV) were down 59% to $0.34 after the company announced plan to voluntary delist from the Nasdaq Capital Market and deregister with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.
  • Oddity Tech Ltd. (NASDAQ:ODD) was down, falling 51% to $14.24 after the company reported fourth-quarter financial results and issued first-quarter sales guidance below estimates.

Commodities

In commodity news, oil traded down 0.3% to $65.46 while gold traded up 0.8% at $5,219.60.

Silver traded up 3.4% to $90.50 on Wednesday, while copper rose 1.6% to $6.0235.

Euro zone

European shares were higher today. The eurozone's STOXX 600 rose 0.59%, while Spain's IBEX 35 Index rose 0.87%. London's FTSE 100 rose 0.79%, Germany's DAX gained 0.73% and France's CAC 40 rose 0.26% during the session.

Asia Pacific Markets

Asian markets closed higher on Wednesday, with Japan's Nikkei 225 gaining 2.20%, Hong Kong's Hang Seng index gaining 0.66%, China's Shanghai Composite gaining 0.72% and India's BSE Sensex rising 0.06%.

Economics

  • The volume of mortgage applications in the US increased by 0.4% from the previous week during the third week of February, compared to a 2.8% gain in the earlier period.
  • U.S. crude inventories gained by 15.989 million barrels to 435.8 million barrels in the week ended Feb. 20, compared to market estimates of a 1.8 million-barrel rise.
