Illinois Governor Jay Robert ‘JB’ Pritzker (D) has criticized President Donald Trump as the United States Postal Service (USPS) introduces its first-ever surcharge on packages.
Trump Mail Tax
In a post on the social media platform X on Wednesday, the Governor shared his criticism of Trump amid an 8% surcharge by the USPS on all packages to offset rising fuel costs. “Groceries. Gas. Now packages. Is there anything Donald Trump hasn’t made more expensive?” he asked in the post. Pritzker then urged people to call the USPS additional charge “the Trump Mail Tax.”
According to the American Automobile Association (AAA) on Wednesday, the national average gas price per gallon across the fifty states was $3.981/gallon, with a gallon of gasoline costing $5.843 in California and $5.300 in Washington State. Gas prices were the lowest in Oklahoma at $3.256/gallon.
EPA Announces Temporary E15 Fuel Push, DoorDash Touts Gas Savings
Amid the rising fuel costs, Trump’s Environmental Protection Agency has confirmed that it will temporarily allow broader summer sales of E15 gasoline, a higher-ethanol blend. The biofuel has been restricted to warmer months, as regulators share concerns that the blend could worsen smog.
Meanwhile, food delivery platform DoorDash Inc. (NASDAQ:DASH) will help drivers with cashbacks and weekly payments to help offset rising fuel costs. The platform’s emergency relief program would offer a 10% cashback to drivers with a DoorDash Crimson Visa Debit Card, as well as up to $15 in weekly payments based on miles driven.
The U.S.-Iran War
Trump has urged Iran to accept its defeat and warned that the U.S. was ready to “unleash hell” as tensions continue to escalate in the region. Authorities in Abu Dhabi have reported that two people were killed in interceptions of missile strikes in the Emirate, according to the government’s media office.
Amid the war, Japanese authorities have shared that the country has begun releasing yet another part of its strategic oil reserves as it looks to offset the impact of the war. Japan is among the largest importers of oil shipped from the Middle East.
