U.S. stocks traded lower this morning, with the Dow Jones index falling more than 200 points on Thursday.
Following the market opening Thursday, the Dow traded down 0.44% to 49,271.18 while the NASDAQ fell 0.31% to 24,581.28. The S&P 500 also fell, dropping, 0.22% to 7,122.47.
Leading and Lagging Sectors
Utilities shares jumped by 1.4% on Thursday.
In trading on Thursday, information technology stocks fell by 0.7%.
Top Headline
Shares of Tesla Inc. (NASDAQ:TSLA) fell over 1% on Thursday after the company reported first-quarter financial results.
Tesla reported first-quarter revenue of $22.71 billion, up 16% year-over-year. The revenue missed a Street consensus estimate of $22.39 billion, according to data from Benzinga Pro. Tesla's adjusted earnings per share of 41 cents beat a Street consensus estimate of 37 cents per share.
Equities Trading UP
- Auddia Inc (NASDAQ:AUUD) shares shot up 140% to $9.29. Auddia’s LT350 secured 14th patent expanding AI infrastructure portfolio to 16 issued and pending patents for parking lot deployments.
- Shares of Cumberland Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (NASDAQ:CPIX) got a boost, surging 59% to $4.85 after the company announced that Apotex will acquire its line of branded pharmaceuticals for $100 million.
- Trio-Tech International (NYSE:TRT) shares were also up, gaining 41% to $11.72.
Equities Trading DOWN
- zSpace, Inc. (NASDAQ:ZSPC) shares dropped 47% to $0.62.
- Shares of ASGN Inc (NYSE:ASGN) were down 39% to $24.80 after the company reported worse-than-expected first-quarter financial results and issued second-quarter guidance below estimates.
- Medpace Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:MEDP) was down, falling 25% to $379.52 after the company announced first-quarter results.
Commodities
In commodity news, oil traded up 1.4% to $94.22 while gold traded down 0.2% at $4,744.20.
Silver traded down 2.7% to $75.840 on Thursday, while copper fell 1.1% to $6.0600.
Euro zone
European shares were mostly lower today. The eurozone's STOXX 600 declined 0.1%, while Spain's IBEX 35 Index fell 0.7%. London's FTSE 100 fell 0.3%, Germany's DAX slipped 0.3% and France's CAC 40 gained 0.7% during the session.
Asia Pacific Markets
Asian markets closed lower on Thursday, with Japan's Nikkei 225 falling 0.75%, China's Shanghai Composite declining 0.32%, Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index dipping 0.95% and India's BSE Sensex dropping 1.09%.
Economics
- U.S. initial jobless claims climbed by 6,000 to 214,000 in the week ending April 18, compared to market estimates of 212,000.
- The Chicago Fed National Activity Index fell to -0.20 in March, recording its lowest reading since November 2025, compared to a revised level of +0.03 in February.
