Archer Aviation Inc. (NYSE:ACHR) and Anduril Industries unveiled Thunder, a jointly developed autonomous vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) platform aimed at commercial and defense use.

Thunder combines electric propulsion and rotor design to boost speed, range, and payload. Archer plans to name its first commercial partners for the platform later this week.

Thunder Targets Commercial and Defense Missions

  • Thunder’s tiltrotor design supports runway-independent operations from austere locations and avoids the range limits of traditional rotorcraft.
  • Shane Arnott of Anduril said bringing commercial eVTOL innovations into defense use increases value for customers.
  • “This mission required a clean sheet design, built from the ground up to meet the needs of modern commercial and defense applications. We couldn’t simply tweak our existing aircraft. Instead, we took a bold first principles approach alongside Anduril to develop what we believe is the most sophisticated vertical lift aircraft ever made,” said Adam Goldstein, CEO of Archer.

ACHR Stock Price Activity: Archer Aviation shares were up 5.18% at $4.67 during premarket trading Monday, according to Benzinga Pro.
