XRP (CRYPTO: XRP) broke out of the symmetrical triangle that contained its entire July consolidation, jumping 3% with the candle body sitting cleanly outside the pattern and derivatives data backing the move.

What Makes This Breakout Different From Previous Attempts?

XRP trades above both its 20-day EMA at $1.1059 and 50-day EMA at $1.1456 for the first time since the May breakdown, marking a structural shift rather than a routine bounce.

The RSI bullish divergence that printed in June has now fully activated, with RSI at 57.63, its strongest momentum reading since May, and still trending higher.

The Fibonacci structure now maps the road ahead. Price cleared the 0.382 level at $1.1153 and is currently testing the 0.5 level at $1.1465. Sequential targets on continuation:

  • $1.1822 — 0.618 Fibonacci, next resistance
  • $1.2299 — 0.786 Fibonacci, major target
  • $1.2906 — 1.0 Fibonacci, full retracement

Holding above the 50-day EMA at $1.1456 on any retest keeps $1.1822 as the next stop.

However, losing the 20-day EMA at $1.1059 invalidates the breakout.

Are XRP Derivatives Confirming The Move?

When both volume and open interest rise together on a breakout candle, it is the healthiest derivative signature possible. It confirms that new participants are opening long positions into the move rather than the rally running purely on short covering — which reverses once squeezed shorts are washed out.

Funding Rates Fell 240% While Price Rose

XRP funding rates fell sharply by 240% on July 21, per CryptoQuant data, even as the price rallied above $1.13.

This divergence indicates traders are reducing leveraged long positions despite rising prices — leverage normalization rather than crowded momentum.

This is not immediately bearish; in fact, it means the rally is not built on excessive leverage that could unwind.

However, a drop back below $1.10 while funding rates remain negative would shift the short-term read toward bears.

What Is The ETF Flow Picture Showing?

XRP ETFs pulled in $2.49 million on July 20, according to SoSoValue data, with Bitwise’s XRP ETF (NYSE:XRP) carrying the entire flow solo.

Cumulative inflows now sit at $501 million, total XRP ETF assets have crossed $1.017 billion, and all-time net inflows stand at $1.489 billion.

XRP remains down 67.70% over the past 12 months, keeping the longer-term tape in drawdown territory.

The question for traders is whether the current momentum improvement can build into a sustained trend change rather than another failed rally into overhead supply.
