Oracle Corp. (NYSE:ORCL) stock rose more than 4% on Tuesday as investors returned to beaten-down large-cap technology stocks during a broad market rally.

The Nasdaq gained 1.91%, while the S&P 500 advanced 0.82%. The Technology sector led all 11 sectors with a 2.75% gain.

Risk-On Mood Lifts Oracle

Oracle’s rally came as investor risk appetite improved across the technology sector. The stock is attempting to stabilize near its July low and close to the bottom of its 52-week trading range. That setup often attracts bargain hunters and short-covering activity after a prolonged decline.

Market breadth also supported the move. Seven sectors traded higher, four declined, and the advance-decline ratio stood at 1.8.

Despite Tuesday’s rebound, Oracle shares remain down 47.9% over the past 12 months. The latest gain appears to be a relief rally rather than confirmation of a long-term trend reversal.

Tuesday’s advance followed Monday’s selloff. During a recent Prof G Markets podcast, co-host Ed Elson modeled a scenario in which OpenAI could post annual losses of $165 billion by 2030. Host Scott Galloway also pointed to S&P’s downgrade of Oracle’s debt, citing concerns tied to OpenAI-related credit exposure.

Oracle Technical Picture Remains Weak

Despite Tuesday’s gain, Oracle continues to trade below key technical levels. The stock sits 9.5% below its 20-day simple moving average, 27.9% below its 50-day average and 33.2% below its 200-day average.

The stock also remains below a bearish “death cross” that formed in January, when the 50-day moving average fell below the 200-day moving average.

Momentum indicators also remain cautious. The moving average convergence divergence (MACD) indicator is below its signal line, suggesting buying momentum remains weak.

The next key resistance level is around $149.

Earnings And Analyst Outlook

Oracle is expected to report quarterly results around Sept. 8.

Analysts expect earnings of $1.67 per share, up from $1.47 a year earlier, on revenue of $19.12 billion compared with $14.93 billion in the prior-year period.

The stock carries a consensus Buy rating with an average analyst price forecast of $260.04. Recent analyst actions include:

  • CLSA initiated coverage with a Hold rating and a $145 price forecast on July 20.
  • Bernstein reiterated Outperform and raised its price forecast to $325 on June 11.
  • RBC Capital maintained Sector Perform with a $190 price forecast on June 11.

Benzinga Edge Ratings

Benzinga Edge assigns Oracle a weak Momentum score of 3.89 and a weak Value score of 23.08. However, the stock receives a strong Growth score of 91.69.

The ratings suggest Oracle maintains attractive long-term growth potential, although its near-term technical picture remains weak.

ETF Exposure

Oracle represents a significant holding in several technology-focused exchange-traded funds, including the iShares Expanded Tech-Software Sector ETF (IGV), the First Trust NASDAQ Technology Dividend Index Fund (TDIV) and the Pacer Data and Digital Revolution ETF (TRFK).

Strong inflows or outflows in those funds can influence demand for Oracle shares.

ORCL Stock Price Activity: Oracle shares were up 4.22% at $126.50 at the time of publication on Tuesday, according to Benzinga Pro data.
