Redwire Corporation (NYSE:RDW) stock is gaining momentum following infrastructure announcements and defense contract wins, pointing to commercial and military growth. The Nasdaq is down 1.53% while the S&P 500 has shed 1.09%, but Industrials is up 1.94%.
Earlier this week on Tuesday, space-related companies traded higher, possibly in sympathy with SpaceX‘s rally after ARK Invest bought additional stock during a recent pullback, according to Benzinga Pro.
Indiana Microgravity Facility
Redwire opened a 30,000-square-foot research and microgravity payload development facility in Georgetown, Indiana, focusing on pharmaceutical and biotech innovation. Located at Novaparke Innovation & Technology Campus, the site includes scientific laboratories, a Payload Operations Control Center monitoring International Space Station research, and operational space for Space Microgravity Development.
Alabama Manufacturing Footprint
Separately, Redwire announced a 164,000-square-foot expansion of its Huntsville, Alabama campus to scale production of Stalker UAS, Octopus gimbal payloads and space capabilities. Supported by $8.5 million in state and local incentives, the project is expected to create 150 jobs, with completion targeted for the fourth quarter of 2027.
Redwire Stock Short Interest Report
Short interest in Redwire increased during the last reporting period, rising from 37.78 million to 43.05 million. This put 26.2% of the company’s publicly available shares short.
Based on the recent average volume of 33.68 million shares traded per day, it would take 1.28 days for holders of this short interest to close out their positions without sending the stock sharply higher.
Technical Analysis
The bigger-picture trend is still heavy: RDW is down 44.83% over the past 12 months, and it’s trading 33.4% below its 50-day SMA ($14.03) and 20.6% below its 100-day SMA ($11.78). Even after Thursday’s pop, the stock remains 8.2% below the 20-day SMA ($10.18) and 7.1% below the 200-day SMA ($10.07), which keeps overhead supply in play on rallies.
The moving-average structure is mixed: the 20-day SMA is below the 50-day SMA (bearish near-term), but the 50-day SMA is still above the 200-day SMA after the golden cross in April. That combination often produces choppy "repair work" trading—bounces can happen, but they tend to face resistance until price starts reclaiming longer averages.
