Applied Digital Corp (NASDAQ:APLD) stock is trading higher Thursday morning, gaining momentum alongside the broader artificial intelligence infrastructure sector following Microsoft Corp’s (NASDAQ:MSFT) fourth-quarter financial report.

Microsoft Cloud Results Point to Infrastructure Demand

Microsoft reported fourth-quarter revenue of $90.01 billion, an 18% year-over-year increase, with earnings reaching $4.74 per share. Growth was led by the Intelligent Cloud division, which generated $39.3 billion in revenue as Azure cloud services expanded by 43%.

Additionally, Microsoft’s commercial remaining performance obligation grew 84% to $678 billion, underscoring significant ongoing capital commitments to cloud and enterprise computing resources.

Microsoft CFO Amy Hood said on the company’s earnings call that AI demand is outpacing available computing capacity, noting that demand exceeds available supply in an “extreme” way. Similarly, Alphabet CFO Anat Ashkenazi said on the company’s conference call last week that the company plans to increase its use of third-party providers to help meet compute demand.

"While we have increased our capacity quite significantly over the past three years, the demand still outpaces that investment,” the Alphabet CFO said.
