Pharmaceutical firm Sunshine Biopharma Inc. (NASDAQ:SBFM) on Tuesday said it received regulatory approval to introduce its 2mg generic Dienogest tablets to the Canadian market.

The significant milestone marks the company’s strategic expansion into women’s healthcare, specifically targeting first-line therapy for pelvic pain associated with endometriosis.

The generic prescription drugs maker in June implemented a one-for-ten reverse stock split.

Expanding Into Women’s Health Sector

Dienogest serves as the direct generic equivalent to the brand-name medication, Visanne.

The therapeutic tablet functions by attaching to progesterone receptors, delivering localized anti-inflammatory benefits, and gently suppressing hormones.

Through these targeted mechanisms of action, the medication effectively alleviates severe endometriosis-related discomfort by actively shrinking the growth of abnormal tissue.

The women’s health product will be distributed exclusively via Nora Pharma Inc., the company’s wholly owned Canadian subsidiary.

Nora Pharma has already established a distribution network.

Management anticipates that the newly approved generic Dienogest will be fully ready to ship directly to Canadian retail pharmacies by the end of 2026.

Capturing Rapidly Growing Global Market

The economic prospects for this therapy are substantial. Based on industry projections provided by Dataintelo, the worldwide market for Dienogest medications was valued at $2.8 billion in 2025.

The sector is projected to expand at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 7.8%, potentially reaching an overall market valuation of $5.2 billion by 2034.

According to statistics from IQVIA Pharmafocus 2028, the Canadian pharmaceutical industry is currently ranked as the sixth-largest globally.

The nation accounts for roughly 2.1% of the entire global pharmaceutical market.

In July, Canada approved Sunshine Biopharma’s generic Ondansetron tablets of 4mg and 8mg. Ondansetron is the generic equivalent of the brand name Zofran.

Ondansetron is highly prescribed for nausea and vomiting caused by cancer chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and surgery.

SBFM Price Action: Sunshine Biopharma shares were up 6.84% at $1.25 during premarket trading on Tuesday. The stock is trading near its 52-week low of $1.10, according to Benzinga Pro data.
