Advanced Micro Devices Inc. (NASDAQ:AMD) is working closely with some of the biggest names in artificial intelligence (AI), with CEO Lisa Su saying Meta Platforms Inc. (NASDAQ:META), OpenAI and Anthropic are helping optimize their AI models on AMD’s platform in a collaboration that benefits the broader ecosystem.
AI Leaders Help Improve ROCm
Speaking on the company’s second-quarter earnings call on Tuesday, Su said the work extends beyond individual customers and helps improve software performance for all developers deploying AI workloads on AMD hardware.
AMD is working directly with leading AI companies Meta, OpenAI, Anthropic, and others to optimize their models on ROCm, the company’s open AI software platform.
“The improvements are benefiting the entire AMD ecosystem,” Su said, adding that the collaborations are making it “significantly faster and easier” for developers to bring AI models into production at scale.
Broadens Open Source AI Ecosystem
More than 3 million AI models now run out of the box on its platform, while open-source contributions to ROCm have increased more than tenfold over the past year.
Its new open-source AI models are now supported on its AI chips as soon as they are released, allowing developers to deploy the latest models without waiting for software updates.
In July, Nvidia Corp. (NASDAQ:NVDA) CEO Jensen Huang said the world needs “both frontier closed models and frontier open models,” while endorsing an industry letter backing open models as a driver of innovation and AI sovereignty.
