U.S. stocks traded mixed this morning, with the Nasdaq Composite falling over 50 points on Thursday.
Following the market opening Thursday, the Dow traded up 0.04% to 54,373.37 while the NASDAQ fell 0.24% to 26,299.39. The S&P 500 also fell, dropping, 0.01% to 7,723.23.
Leading and Lagging Sectors
Energy shares jumped by 1.3% on Thursday.
In trading on Thursday, information technology stocks fell by 0.5%.
Top Headline
US Foods Holding Corp (NYSE:USFD) reported better-than-expected earnings for the second quarter.
The company posted quarterly earnings of $1.44 per share which beat the analyst consensus estimate of $1.36 per share. The company reported quarterly sales of $10.532 billion which beat the analyst consensus estimate of $10.461 billion.
Equities Trading UP
- Clearone Inc (NASDAQ:CLRO) shares shot up 203% to $11.15 following a Securities and Exchange Commission filing that revealed fresh progress on its planned merger with clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company Vivani Medical, Inc.‘s Cortigent, Inc. unit.
- Shares of Wing Yip Food Holdings Group (NASDAQ:WYHG) got a boost, surging 179% to $9.33. At Aug. 6, extraordinary general meeting, Wing Yip Food’s shareholders approved delegating authority to the board to issue new shares, bonds, other securities.
- Ensysce Biosciences Inc (NASDAQ:ENSC) shares were also up, gaining 77% to $0.64 after the company announced the acquisition of Cy Biopharma and up to $77 million in private financing.
Equities Trading DOWN
- Yxt Com Group Holding (NASDAQ:YXT) shares dropped 65% to $8.18 after the company reported pricing of $1.05 million registered direct offering.
- Shares of ThredUp Inc (NASDAQ:TDUP) were down 47% to $3.36 after the company reported worse-than-expected Q2 EPS results and lowered its FY2026 sales guidance below estimates.
- BioVie Inc (NASDAQ:BIVI) was down, falling 44% to $1.14 after the company announced topline results of Phase 2 SUNRISE-PD trial of Bezisterim in early Parkinson’s disease.
Commodities
In commodity news, oil traded up 1.1% to $76.05 while gold traded up 0.3% at $4,315.80.
Silver traded down 0.7% to $61.835 on Thursday, while copper rose 0.7% to $6.7765.
Euro zone
European shares were higher today. The eurozone’s STOXX 600 gained 0.4%, while Spain’s IBEX 35 Index rose 1.1% London’s FTSE 100 gained 0.1%, Germany’s DAX gained 0.2%, while France’s CAC 40 climbed 0.7%.
Asia Pacific Markets
Asian markets closed mixed on Thursday, with Japan’s Nikkei 225 falling 0.93%, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index falling 1.49%, China’s Shanghai Composite rising 0.57% and India’s BSE Sensex rising 0.48%.
Economics
- U.S. initial jobless claims rose by 1,000 to 199,000 in the final week of July, compared to market estimates of 202,000.
- U.S. nonfarm business sector labor productivity increased 1.4% in the second quarter, higher than market estimates of a 0.6% gain.
- Unit labor costs increased by 1.3% in the second quarter, matching the revised pace in the previous quarter.
