Tesla Inc. (NASDAQ:TSLA) and Space Exploration Technologies Corp. (NASDAQ:SPCX) CEO Elon Musk says that the new Terafab semiconductor manufacturing facility in Grimes County, Texas, will serve both the Optimus robot and SpaceX’s “AI spacecraft”.
Elon Musk’s Approximate Guesses
On Thursday, the Tesla Owners Silicon Valley handle on X shared a promotional video of the Terafab facility, saying that the site will “produce over 1 terawatt of AI compute capacity per year” and that it would be a crucial element in Tesla’s future vision.
“My very approximate guess,” Musk said in response to the post, “is that Terafab AI compute output would be ~25% for Tesla Optimus and ~75% for AI spacecraft,” the billionaire added. Notably, the Terafab facility targets 1 terawatt of annual AI compute capacity at full scale.
3,000 Jobs, Texas Over California
Musk also responded to user Gavin Baker on X, who said that the facility will create over 3,000 jobs in Texas. “3000 jobs is just for phase 1 of 10 btw,” Musk responded to Baker.
He also shared why Texas was chosen for the construction of the site instead of California, which was Tesla’s previous headquarters and hosts the Fremont facility now responsible for producing Optimus units.
“Major new construction projects are de facto illegal in California,” Musk said without giving out any additional details to back his claim.
Eric Trump Defends SpaceX, Peter Diamandis Sees $10 Trillion Valuation
President Donald Trump‘s son, Eric Trump, pushed back against criticism of Musk and SpaceX’s Starlink internet service. Trump outlined SpaceX’s achievements and said that “one private company outpaced the rest of Earth (far exceeding the two largest superpowers),” in a post on X.
Meanwhile, X Prize Foundation‘s Peter Diamandis predicted that SpaceX could go on to become a $10 trillion company in the future, backing Musk’s goal of securing $1 trillion in revenue for SpaceX by the end of the decade.
