NVIDIA Corp. (NASDAQ:NVDA) stock edged higher in Friday’s premarket session as investor sentiment improved and technology stocks tracked higher. Nasdaq futures gained about 0.5%, while S&P 500 futures added 0.16%.
The stock also remains near its 52-week high after a strong rally earlier this year.
Investor confidence received an additional boost after new industry research highlighted NVIDIA’s dominant position in the fast-growing sovereign artificial intelligence market.
NVIDIA Strengthens Grip On Sovereign AI Market
NVIDIA continues to dominate the sovereign AI market, with Counterpoint Research estimating that its chips power 92% of sovereign large language models (LLMs) worldwide. The findings reinforce analysts’ view that the company remains the preferred infrastructure provider for governments building domestic AI capabilities.
Counterpoint analyzed more than 170 sovereign LLMs across about 55 countries and found NVIDIA processors were used in 92% of deployments, reflecting the company’s leadership in both AI training and inference.
Research Director Marc Einstein said countries increasingly want AI infrastructure hosted within their borders but still rely heavily on NVIDIA because of its mature CUDA software ecosystem.
“We have observed in our Sovereign AI LLM research that hosting is increasingly sovereign while the AI chip source is not,” Einstein said.
He added that most domestic LLM developers continue to train models on NVIDIA accelerators because of the company’s established software platform.
Einstein also said NVIDIA is reinforcing its position through multibillion-dollar sovereign AI partnerships designed to support the next generation of AI inference and AI factories. While rivals are expanding their presence, they remain well behind the market leader.
Counterpoint estimates Advanced Micro Devices Inc. (NASDAQ:AMD) holds about a 4% share of the sovereign AI market, supported mainly by deployments tied to the LUMI supercomputer in Finland and projects in Australia and South Korea.
Other competitors, including Cerebras, Qualcomm Inc. (NASDAQ:QCOM), Alphabet Inc.’s (NASDAQ:GOOGL) Google TPU and Amazon.com Inc.’s (NASDAQ:AMZN) AWS Inferentia, are targeting specific segments of the sovereign AI inference market.
The report suggests NVIDIA’s competitive advantage extends well beyond chip performance, with its CUDA software ecosystem, broad developer adoption and expanding global partnerships creating significant barriers for competitors.
