Sandisk Corporation (NASDAQ:SNDK) stock gained during Monday’s premarket session as risk appetite firms into the open and traders lean into the stock’s longer-term uptrend despite a choppy intermediate setup.

Nasdaq futures are up 0.48% while S&P 500 futures have gained 0.16%.

Experts urged investors to stay selective on Sandisk as the stock’s sharp rally and elevated memory margins raised questions about how much upside remains.

Sandisk’s Wild Rally Prompts Caution

KKM Financial founder Jeff Kilburg told CNBC that investors should remain patient after Sandisk’s rapid ascent following its separation from Western Digital Corp. (NASDAQ:WDC).

Kilburg said Sandisk climbed from about $48 to more than $2,300 before retreating roughly 40%, making it a high-beta stock that investors should avoid chasing. Instead, he favored diversified semiconductor exposure through the iShares PHLX SOX Semiconductor Sector Index Fund (NASDAQ:SOXX).

Sandisk carries a Buy consensus rating with an average price forecast of $2,114.77. Recent analyst actions include:

  • RBC Capital: Sector Perform; raised its price forecast to $1,300 on Aug. 6.
  • Wells Fargo: Equal-Weight; lowered its price forecast to $1,400 on Aug. 6.
  • Citigroup: Buy; lowered its price forecast to $2,100 on Aug. 6.

Technical Analysis

Sandisk remains above its longer-term trend despite recent weakness. The stock is trading 39.6% above its 200-day simple moving average.

However, the shorter-term picture remains under pressure. Shares are 12.6% below the 20-day SMA and 27.9% below the 50-day SMA. That could leave rallies vulnerable to selling until the stock reclaims those levels.

The MACD is below its signal line, while the histogram is negative. Both indicators suggest that momentum has weakened from the previous upswing.

The moving averages also point to a divided technical picture. The 20-day SMA is below the 50-day SMA, a bearish signal for the near term. However, the 50-day SMA remains above the 200-day SMA, supporting the longer-term bullish trend.

Sandisk reached a swing high and its 52-week high in June before hitting a swing low in July. Traders are now watching for signs that the latest rebound can establish a higher low.

Key support: $998. The level is also near the 200-day exponential moving average of $1,019.41, making the area an important longer-term support zone.

Top ETF Exposure

Sandisk has significant weightings in several exchange-traded funds:

  • Global X NASDAQ 100 Covered Call ETF (NASDAQ:QYLD): 7.64%
  • Invesco S&P 500 Pure Growth ETF (NYSE:RPG): 9.61%
  • First Trust US Equity Opportunities ETF (NYSE:FPX): 7.37%

Those weightings can increase Sandisk’s exposure to ETF flows, as fund inflows and outflows may trigger corresponding purchases or sales of the stock.
