Marvell Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ:MRVL) stock rose about 0.5% in Monday premarket trading as investors looked ahead to the chipmaker’s next earnings report.
The move came despite weakness in the broader market. Nasdaq futures fell 0.13%, while S&P 500 futures slipped 0.06%.
Investors are also looking ahead to Marvell’s Aug. 27 earnings report. The results could provide the next major catalyst for the stock.
Marvell Technical Analysis
Marvell remains well above its longer-term moving averages. The stock is trading 60.7% above its 200-day simple moving average of $138.14 and 15.9% above its 100-day average of $191.47.
However, shares are 7.8% below the 50-day average of $240.89. That points to some medium-term weakness following the stock’s earlier rally.
Marvell’s relative strength index, or RSI, stands at 52.91. That is considered neutral and suggests the stock is neither overbought nor oversold.
The moving averages also send mixed signals. The 20-day average is below the 50-day average, which is a bearish short-term signal. However, the 50-day average remains above the 200-day average. That preserves the longer-term “golden cross” trend that began in October 2025.
Traders may watch $178 as a key support level if the pullback deepens.
Wall Street Weighs The AI Trade
Marvell is a fabless semiconductor company focused on data infrastructure. Its products include processors, optical and copper connectivity products, switches and storage controllers. The company serves data center, carrier, enterprise and consumer markets.
That exposure makes Marvell sensitive to spending trends in networking and data center infrastructure. Investors often value the company based on expectations for future growth rather than only its latest quarterly results.
Marvell’s data center exposure also puts the company at the center of a broader debate over where investors should look for the next leg of the AI trade.
JPMorgan, led by Mislav Matejka, said investors should favor companies that benefit directly from Big Tech’s AI spending. The firm ranks semiconductor companies ahead of hyperscalers and AI-exposed software businesses.
Bank of America Securities (BofA) also named Marvell among its preferred AI infrastructure suppliers. Its other picks include NVIDIA Corp. (NASDAQ:NVDA), Broadcom Inc. (NASDAQ:AVGO), Advanced Micro Devices Inc. (NASDAQ:AMD) and Micron Technology Inc. (NASDAQ:MU).
BofA expects hyperscaler capital expenditures to exceed $1.2 trillion over the next 12 months. That spending could provide a tailwind for companies supplying chips and other infrastructure for AI data centers.
However, Morgan Stanley CIO Mike Wilson sees the potential for hyperscalers to outperform semiconductor stocks. He said more disciplined capital spending could support hyperscalers’ cash flow while making it harder for chip suppliers to exceed elevated expectations.
For Marvell, the debate highlights both sides of the AI opportunity. Continued hyperscaler spending could support demand for its data center products, but the stock’s premium valuation raises the bar for future growth and earnings.
Earnings And Analyst Outlook
Marvell is scheduled to report earnings on Aug. 27.
Wall Street expects earnings of 87 cents per share, up from 67 cents a year earlier. Revenue is expected to rise to $2.70 billion from $2.01 billion.
The stock trades at a price-to-earnings ratio of about 75.2, reflecting a premium valuation.
Analysts have a consensus Buy rating on Marvell, with an average price forecast of $270.83.
Recent analyst actions include KeyBanc raising its price forecast to $400 while maintaining an Overweight rating on July 14. RBC Capital maintained an Outperform rating and a $360 forecast on July 7. UBS raised its forecast to $340 and maintained a Buy rating on June 29.
Benzinga Edge Rankings
Marvell scores strongly on Momentum and Growth in Benzinga Edge Rankings, but its Value score remains weak.
The stock has a Momentum score of 98.37 and a Growth score of 99.77. Its Value score stands at just 1.5.
The combination points to strong growth and price momentum but also a stretched valuation. That could leave the stock more sensitive to earnings, guidance or changes in investor sentiment.
Top ETF Exposure
Marvell is a major holding in several technology and semiconductor exchange-traded funds.
The Invesco PHLX Semiconductor ETF (NASDAQ:SOXQ) has a 5.12% weighting in Marvell. The State Street SPDR NYSE Technology ETF (NYSE:XNTK) has a 6.33% weighting, while the Global X Data Center & Digital Infrastructure ETF (NASDAQ:DTCR) has a 5.05% weighting.
Because Marvell represents a sizable portion of these ETFs, fund inflows and outflows can also affect trading in the shares.
