U.S. stocks traded mostly lower midway through trading, with the Nasdaq Compositing falling around 100 points on Tuesday.

The Dow traded down 0.09% to 53,927.47 while the NASDAQ fell 0.38% to 26,505.09. The S&P 500 also fell, dropping, 0.15% to 7,741.57.

Leading and Lagging Sectors

Energy shares jumped by 1.3% on Tuesday.

In trading on Tuesday, communication services stocks fell by 0.9%.

The U.S. NFIB small business optimism index rose to 99.8 in July from 97.4 in June and beating market estimates of 97.5.

Equities Trading UP
           

  • Quantum Corp (NASDAQ:QMCO) shares shot up 57% to $18.47 after the company reported better-than-expected first-quarter financial results and issued second-quarter guidance above estimates.
  • Shares of Planet Green Holdings Corp (NYSE:PLAG) got a boost, surging 101% to $1.14 after the company announced entry into commercial operations to source, market and distribute lactoferrin for Chinese market.
  • NIQ Global Intelligence PLC (NYSE:NIQ) shares were also up, gaining 32% to $15.40 after the company reported better-than-expected second-quarter financial results and raised its FY26 guidance above estimates.

Equities Trading DOWN

  • Cardinal Infrastructure Group Inc (NASDAQ:CDNL) shares dropped 28% to $42.99 after the company reported mixed second-quarter financial results.
  • Shares of KLX Energy Services Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:KLXE) were down 33% to $1.50 after the company reported worse-than-expected second-quarter sales results and approved a $125 million backstopped rights offering.
  • Life360 (NASDAQ:LIF) was down, falling 26% to $47.71 following second-quarter results.

Commodities

In commodity news, oil traded up 1.3% to $83.21 while gold traded up 0.5% at $4,443.30.

Silver traded down 0.5% to $64.975 on Tuesday, while copper rose 0.5% to $6.6475.

Euro zone

European shares were higher today. The eurozone’s STOXX 600 gained 0.3%, while Spain’s IBEX 35 Index rose 0.5% London’s FTSE 100 rose 0.1%, Germany’s DAX gained 0.4%, while France’s CAC 40 rose 0.2%.

Asia Pacific Markets

Asian markets closed lower on Tuesday, with Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index dipping 1.10%, China’s Shanghai Composite falling 0.82% and India’s BSE Sensex declining 0.49%.

Economics

  • The U.S. NFIB small business optimism index rose to 99.8 in July from 97.4 in June and beating market estimates of 97.5.
  • U.S. existing home sales declined by 1.7% month-over-month to an annualized rate of 4.06 units in July, compared to market estimates of 4.06 million.
