Quantum Corp (NASDAQ:QMCO) stock traded higher on Tuesday after the company reported better-than-expected fiscal first-quarter financial results and issued second-quarter guidance above analyst estimates.
The company achieved its first non-GAAP profitable quarter since 2023, driven by record backlog growth and strong demand for tiered data storage solutions.
Second-Quarter Guidance Surpasses Projections
According to the company’s financial updates released on Monday, Quantum expects fiscal second-quarter 2027 revenue of $80 million to $84 million, well above analyst projections of $74.750 million.
The company forecasts non-GAAP adjusted basic net income per share of 2 cents to 22 cents, compared to estimated losses of three cents, according to Benzinga Pro.
Non-GAAP adjusted operating expenses are projected at $27 million, plus or minus $1 million, while non-GAAP adjusted EBITDA is expected at $6 million, plus or minus $1 million.
Executive Outlook On Market Demand
“Quantum delivered another strong quarter with revenue of approximately $81 million, above the high-end of our guidance, along with better-than-expected gross margin and EBITDA results. In addition, we delivered our first non-GAAP profitable quarter since 2023,” commented Hugues Meyrath, CEO of Quantum.
“Our backlog also increased to record levels, reflecting continued robust demand for our tiered storage solutions as organizations confront explosive data growth, cost pressures and increasing power constraints. With our ActiveScale object storage and modern tape architecture, we are helping customers optimize existing environments with the right data in the right place at the right cost – solving real business problems that are critical in the AI era.”
Debt Elimination And Balance Sheet Strength
Quantum’s cash and equivalents at first-quarter end have increased to $54.6 million, up from $37.5 million on June 30, 2025.
Quarterly interest expense dropped to $2.1 million from $6.5 million in the prior-year period.
Quantum reported zero total outstanding debt following completion of debt elimination transactions, down from $104.3 million as of June 30, 2025.
QMCO Price Action: Quantum shares were up 56.37% to $18.42 at the time of publication on Tuesday. The stock is trading near its 52-week high of $18.48, according to Benzinga Pro data.
