Ethereum (CRYPTO: ETH) may be sitting near a major resistance level, but a breakout could open the door to a much larger move, according to a prominent analyst.
Why Buy ETH At $1,900?
Speaking on an episode of the “Casual Friday” podcast on Aug. 15, DonAlt revealed he has started buying Ethereum around the $1,900 to $2,000 region after waiting several weeks for a deeper pullback.
The trader had initially hoped to accumulate ETH around $1,700 but decided to begin positioning after that entry failed to materialize.
While he is buying gradually, he remains prepared to add if the crypto coin moves lower.
DonAlt stressed that the position is primarily a spot holding rather than a short-term leveraged trade.
His key invalidation sits much lower. A monthly close below roughly $1,500 would significantly weaken the setup and could put $1,000 for ETH back in play.
"If Bitcoin rugs, I think like $1,000 is going to be probably one of the better buys you can have," he added.
Why DonAlt Sees $4,000 ETH
On the upside, DonAlt is targeting roughly $3,800 to $4,000 if Ethereum can decisively clear resistance around $2,000.
Ethereum has been trending lower since the second half of 2025, repeatedly failing to establish meaningful higher highs. However, DonAlt pointed out that the latest sell-off made relatively little downside progress before ETH quickly rebounded toward its previous consolidation zone.
He views the $2,000 area as the most important immediate hurdle. If that resistance breaks, DonAlt expects ETH could quickly move through several intermediate resistance levels.
The trader acknowledged that buying near resistance carries risk, but said he would rather establish some exposure now than be forced to chase ETH after a potentially sharp breakout toward $2,300-$2,400.
BTC Above $65,000 Could Shift Momentum
DonAlt was more cautious on Bitcoin (CRYPTO: BTC), describing its weekly chart as weaker than ETH’s.
Bitcoin has spent weeks trapped in compressed price action, with two consecutive inside weeks highlighting extremely low volatility.
The trader identified roughly $65,000 as the critical upside area. He said he would be willing to add Bitcoin exposure if momentum confirms above that zone.
A breakout would represent one of Bitcoin’s first meaningful shifts in bearish market structure in months. This could fuel a relief rally even if the broader market has not established a definitive bottom.
On the downside, the bullish argument largely depends on Bitcoin continuing to absorb selling around $60,000. DonAlt believes losing that area could expose BTC to substantially lower levels.
