The Future Fund’s Gary Black is no stranger to telling it like it is on social media when it comes to investing in Tesla Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA). The investor is back with a new warning for the overoptimistic Tesla influencers on social media.
Tesla Influencers = College Students Drinking
While Black believes Tesla could receive a buyout offer from SpaceX (NASDAQ:SPCX) that could increase the valuation of the company, he doesn’t think bulls of the stock are doing any help on social media.
"Watching $TSLA bulls on X is like watching a table of college students at a bar whooping it up as they down tequila shots," Black tweeted.
The investor said they think they’re doing something by sharing details about the Cybercab, but they’re not.
Black said there is no evidence the Cybercab can drive without safety monitors.
"Bulls are again whooping it up as if TSLA has alone solved for unsupervised autonomy and the Cybercab now drives itself at 99.999% efficacy."
While Black is critical of the latest enthusiasm, he does believe Tesla will be among the first to achieve unsupervised autonomy — and he expects Alphabet Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOGL), Baidu Inc. (NASDAQ:BIDU) and Amazon.com Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) to get there through their own vehicle units.
"As anyone with an X account can clearly see from the videos where autonomous Teslas still require supervision and disengagement, until Elon Musk puts on the road Cybercabs without safety monitors and scales it to cities not already mapped out, TSLA stock will remain moribund as it has for the past five years."
Tesla Stock Valuation
Black says Tesla stock is up 51%, while the Nasdaq 100 is up 98%, nearly double the performance, over the last five years.
Tesla bulls are using the Cybercab as their latest chance to cheer the company on "every chance they get."
In another tweet, Black said there is a "huge disconnect" for Tesla bulls and the valuation of Tesla stock.
Black says Tesla’s stock price, based on a price-to-earnings ratio of 200x 2026 earnings and a PEG ratio of 5.7x, "makes no sense," especially with other automakers likely to solve unsupervised autonomy alongside Tesla.
Tesla Stock Price Action
Tesla stock is down 0.9% to $336.35 on Tuesday versus a 52-week trading range of $297.38 to $498.83. Tesla shares are down 23% year-to-date in 2026.
