Strategy Inc. (NASDAQ:MSTR) shares are soaring Wednesday alongside a broader crypto rally, as falling Treasury yields boost investor appetite for riskier assets and optimism builds over President Donald Trump’s upcoming meeting with cryptocurrency executives at the White House.

Treasury’s Bond Buyback Plan Sends Yields Lower and Lifts Crypto

Today’s rally has its roots in a Treasury Department move to expand its bond-buyback program, doubling the minimum size of each long-dated buyback operation to $4 billion starting in September.

Buybacks work by having the government repurchase older bonds that don’t trade as actively as newer issues, paying for those purchases out of the same short-term borrowing it already relies on. The practical result is that more debt gets pushed into short-term bills while fewer long bonds remain in investors’ hands, a shift that tends to drag long-term yields lower.

That’s essentially what unfolded this week. The 30-year yield, after touching its highest point since 2007 on Tuesday, retreated to just above 5.2%, while the 10-year yield eased back toward 4.65%. The dollar weakened by roughly 0.8% on the news.

That combination of a softer dollar and falling yields tends to send money hunting for higher returns elsewhere, and crypto is often one of the first to benefit. Part of the reaction also comes down to how traders are interpreting the move itself: many see the expanded buybacks as a watered-down version of quantitative easing, essentially a hint that the Fed’s hands are tied when it comes to keeping monetary policy tight. That’s historically been fertile ground for major Bitcoin (CRYPTO: BTC) rallies.

The price action across crypto backed that theory up quickly. Bitcoin added 6% on the day, Ethereum outpaced it with an 8% gain, Solana climbed 7%, and XRP rose 4%.

Trump’s White House Crypto Meeting Adds to the Optimism

A separate storyline out of Washington is adding fuel to the rally. Plans for an SEC meeting last Friday on possible regulatory relief for digital assets fell apart at the last minute, with the agency pulling the session without rescheduling.

Trump filled that void almost immediately, setting up his own White House sit-down for Wednesday with crypto executives from around the country and planning to join the conversation himself, a move Milk Road analyst John Gillan described as evidence the administration wants to negotiate a deal on the CLARITY Act rather than let the SEC settle the matter through regulation alone.
