U.S. Space Force Flatellite Award Anchors Record Defense Wins
On Tuesday, Aug. 4, Rocket Lab secured a $397 million contract from the U.S. Space Force to build, launch and operate “Flatellites” for the Space-Based Airborne Moving Target Indicator program.
The agreement represents Rocket Lab’s single largest national security award of the year and leverages its upcoming medium-lift Neutron rocket for deployment.
Commercial Expansion And Additional Defense Backing Strengthen Backlog
Momentum continued on Aug. 10, when Rocket Lab reported its second-quarter financial results alongside a dedicated Neutron launch contract with Kepler Communications. The company posted record quarterly revenue of $234 million, a 62% year-over-year increase, and an order backlog exceeding $2.3 billion.
On Aug. 18, Rocket Lab expanded its military footprint further by joining the Space Data Network Consortium, earning a $12 million Space Force contract to test secure in-orbit optical communications using its Photon spacecraft platform.
The company followed with another operational success on Aug. 20, completing Electron’s 93rd flight to deploy a radar imaging satellite for iQPS.
