Space Exploration Technologies Corp. (NASDAQ:SPCX) CEO Elon Musk says the company will provide discounted access to its Starlink satellite internet services to residents living close to the upcoming Starbase launch site in Louisiana.
Starlink at 50% off
In a post on X on Thursday, the official Starlink handle said that residents of Vermillion Parish would be eligible for discounted prices on the Residential plan. “We are applying a 50% discount to Starlink Residential service plans,” Starlink said, according to the official its official website linked in the post.
Starlink says customers do not need to do anything except enter their address to confirm eligibility and said the discount applies to both new and current customers automatically. “For new customers, there is no upfront hardware cost for Residential service,” Starlink said.
“The discount continues as long as your service address remains in the eligible area. Starlink may stop offering this discount to new customers at any time. “Half price Starlink for anyone in the neighborhood of Starbase Louisiana,” Musk said, quoting Starlink’s post on X.
Starlink also said that the discount will continue as long as the address is in the eligible service area. The discount can also be shared with friends and family. “They may qualify for the same area discount, and your referral reward is redeemable as cash or service credit,” Starlink said.
Starlink offers its Residential service in three plans. The first is the Residential 100 Mbps plan for $55/month. The Residential 200 Mbps plan is for $85/month, while the range-topping Residential Max plan is available for $130/month. With the discounts, the effective rates come down to $27.5/month, $42.5/month and $65/month, respectively.
$3.5 Trillion Revenue, Falcon 9 Sunset
The news comes as Musk recently predicted that SpaceX could report $3.5 trillion in revenue by 2033 following the Starbase Louisiana spaceport. The prediction is seven years earlier than investment bank Morgan Stanley‘s (NYSE:MS) prediction for the same revenue figure, but in 2040.
On the other hand, SpaceX also sunsetted the Falcon 9 Starlink launch operations from Florida’s Cape Canaveral Space Force Station, saying that future launches would take place on SpaceX’s Starship rocket instead.
Price Action: SPCX shares fell 0.57% to $140.07 during pre-market trading on Friday.
