Shah Sees Hugging Face Expanding Nvidia’s AI Reach
Counterpoint Research analyst Neil Shah said on Thursday that the potential acquisition represents a broader horizontal integration strategy for Nvidia.
Hugging Face has become a central platform where developers publish, rank, fine-tune and deploy AI models.
Shah believes ownership could give Nvidia earlier visibility into which models, architectures, compression techniques and agent frameworks are gaining traction before that demand reaches the chip market.
He said that information could help Nvidia shape its compilers, runtimes and future systems while pulling more workloads toward its silicon, software and infrastructure.
Open Models and Physical AI Could Strengthen Nvidia’s Position
Shah sees open models as an important motivation behind the potential acquisition.
While closed AI labs increasingly develop their own chips, Nvidia serves a much broader range of models and could use Hugging Face to make open-model deployment faster and more efficient on its hardware.
He also highlighted robotics and world models as fast-growing areas on Hugging Face.
Shah believes Nvidia could use the platform to strengthen distribution for its Physical AI technologies, including Nemotron and Alpamayo.
Neutrality Remains the Key Risk
Shah said Hugging Face’s value depends heavily on remaining neutral because major AI labs, startups and Nvidia hardware competitors all publish models on the platform.
He warned that the platform could lose value if developers begin viewing it as too closely tied to Nvidia or CUDA.
In his view, the deal works best if Nvidia keeps Hugging Face open to competitors while using its broad developer reach to encourage more open models, AI agents and robotics workloads to run on Nvidia systems.
NVDA Price Action: Nvidia shares were down 0.04% at $227.89 during premarket trading on Friday, according to Benzinga Pro data.
