U.S. stocks traded lower midway through trading, with the Nasdaq Composite falling more than 100 points on Tuesday.
The Dow traded down 0.40% to 52,971.81 while the NASDAQ dipped 0.52% to 26,232.46. The S&P 500 also fell, dropping, 0.35% to 7,659.14.
Leading and Lagging Sectors
Consumer staples shares jumped by 0.9% on Tuesday.
In trading on Tuesday, consumer discretionary stocks fell by 1.6%.
Top Headline
The ISM manufacturing PMI declined to 54.6 in August from 55.6 in the previous month, and down from market estimates of 55.2.
Equities Trading UP
- bioAffinity Technologies Inc (NASDAQ:BIAF) shares shot up 56% to $7.12 after the company announced that it is advancing the potential application of its CyPath Lung Test.
- Shares of Fervo Energy Co (NASDAQ:FRVO) got a boost, surging 17% to $18.07 following reports suggesting it signed a deal to deliver power to Google in 2028.
- Wetour Robotics Ltd (NASDAQ:WETO) shares were also up, gaining 16% to $6.33 after the company announced it released a development demonstration of Orchestra combining surface electromyography with first-person vision to capture richer human-hand data for robot learning.
Equities Trading DOWN
- Alumis Inc (NASDAQ:ALMS) shares dropped 53% to $10.21 after the company disclosed topline results from Envudeucitinib Phase 2b trial in Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE).
- Shares of Rezolve AI PLC (NASDAQ:RZLV) were down 19% to $2.34 after the company reported H1 results.
- Nocera Inc (NASDAQ:NCRA) was down, falling 21% to $2.23.
Commodities
In commodity news, oil traded up 3% to $88.37 while gold traded down 1.6% at $4,409.10.
Silver traded down 2.2% to $65.535 on Tuesday, while copper fell 1.3% to $6.5995.
Euro zone
European shares were lower today. The eurozone’s STOXX 600 slipped 0.3%, while Spain’s IBEX 35 Index fell 0.4%, London’s FTSE 100 fell 0.2%, Germany’s DAX dipped 0.9%, while France’s CAC 40 fell 0.2%.
Asia Pacific Markets
Asian markets closed lower on Tuesday, with Japan’s Nikkei 225 falling 0.15%, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index declining 0.93%, China’s Shanghai Composite declining 0.16% and India’s BSE Sensex falling 0.02%.
Economics
- The US Logistics Managers’ Index declined for a second straight month to a reading of 66.6 in August from 68.9 in the previous month.
- U.S. job openings rose by 89,000 to 7.271 million in July compared to a revised 7.182 million in the previous month, and down from market estimates of 7.30 million.
- The ISM manufacturing PMI declined to 54.6 in August from 55.6 in the previous month, and down from market estimates of 55.2.
- The S&P Global manufacturing PMI was revised higher to 53.9 in August from the flash reading of 53.2.
