Cryptocurrency punters have amped up the odds that OpenAI will officially announce it has created artificial general intelligence this year, after the company stated it’s "now moving into the AGI era."
Polymarket Odds Spike
Polygon (CRYPTO: POL)-based Polymarket currently prices in a 28% chance of a formal declaration by Dec. 31, up from 19% the day before. The odds have lifted 18 percentage points in a month.

The possibility spiked after Nvidia Corp (NASDAQ: NVDA) CEO Jensen Huang declared that artificial general intelligence has arrived with OpenAI’s GPT-6 Astra. He mentioned that Astra was trained using Nvidia’s processors.
Notably, OpenAI President Greg Brockman shared Huang’s post and said the company is “now moving into the AGI era.”
‘Unmatched Speed, Accuracy’
OpenAI released the model to a select group of organizations and plans a gradual rollout to ChatGPT users.
The company said GPT-6 Astra is designed to handle the “most demanding professional work” with “unmatched speed, accuracy, and judgment.”
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman deemed it the “best model in the world for computer use,” adding that users would find it worth the wait.
Artificial General Intelligence means an AI system with general, human-level ability to learn, reason and apply knowledge. It does not exist yet and remains a theoretical goal for researchers and technology companies.
