On Tuesday, AstraZeneca Plc (NASDAQ:AZN) secured a key FDA approval for a new breast cancer treatment while reporting strong Phase 3 trial data for its lung cancer and respiratory therapies.

Lung Cancer Trial Success

On Tuesday, the company announced interim results from its DeLLphi-305 Phase 3 trial.

The study evaluated extensive-stage small cell lung cancer patients who remained stable after standard induction therapy.

Data indicated that combining Imfinzi with Amgen Inc.’s (NASDAQ:AMGN) Imdelltra as a first-line maintenance treatment significantly improved overall survival compared to using Imfinzi alone.

The combination therapy also showed meaningful improvements in progression-free survival and objective response rates.

Advances In Respiratory Treatments

AstraZeneca also released full results from its OBERON and TITANIA Phase 3 trials evaluating tozorakimab for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).

The trials demonstrated that tozorakimab effectively reduced moderate and severe exacerbations across a broad patient population, including current and former smokers with varying blood eosinophil counts.

In these trials, tozorakimab reduced exacerbations in the overall population by 30% and 29%, respectively, compared to a placebo. Researchers also noted the biologic reduced mucus plugging.

The FDA accepted a Biologics License Application for tozorakimab with Priority Review, setting an anticipated action date in the first quarter of 2027.

FDA Accelerated Approval For Breast Cancer

On Friday, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) granted accelerated approval for AstraZeneca’s Etcamah in combination with a CDK4/6 inhibitor.

The approval covers adult patients with HR-positive, HER2-negative metastatic breast cancer featuring an ESR1 mutation.

This authorization stems from the pivotal SERENA-6 Phase 3 trial, where the Etcamah combination reduced the risk of disease progression or death by 56% compared to standard treatments.

Patients receiving Etcamah achieved a median progression-free survival of 16.0 months, outperforming the 9.2 months seen with standard care.

AZN Stock Price Activity: AstraZeneca shares were down 0.74% to $161.49 at the time of publication on Tuesday, according to Benzinga Pro data.
