Skyworks Solutions Inc. (NASDAQ:SWKS) is on track for its strongest weekly gain in 17 years.

The chipmaker has rallied 22% this week, a move that would mark its best five-day stretch since 2009 and one of only a handful of 20%-plus weeks in the company’s listed history.

The catalyst is consolidation.

CEO Phil Brace told a Goldman Sachs conference this week that Skyworks’ $22 billion merger with Qorvo Inc. (NASDAQ:QRVO) has entered its final stages and should close by year-end. That is the clearest signal yet on timing after months of speculation.

Shares were up 5.6% at $88.81 during Friday afternoon trading, a second straight session of gains after Thursday’s 9.8% surge to $84.03. Qorvo has rallied in sympathy.

The combination would create the dominant U.S. supplier of RF front-end chips.
