Coinbase Global Inc. (NASDAQ:COIN) stock was trading lower on Tuesday as investors took profits after a 9% rally on Monday.
Monday’s stock gain coincided with Senate Republicans releasing a revised draft of the CLARITY Act ahead of Tuesday’s scheduled procedural vote. The updated draft addresses ethics and banking industry concerns raised by Democrats, boosting market expectations that the crypto market-structure bill could secure the 60 votes required at 2:15 p.m. ET to advance to formal debate.
Analyst Upgrades Stock
Compass Point analyst Ed Engel upgraded Coinbase stock from Sell to Neutral on Monday, raising his price forecast from $130 to $177. Engel cited signs of a recovery in Bitcoin (CRYPTO: BTC) and noted that retail trading activity typically follows digital asset price gains.
Tokenized Equities Competition
Separately, Coinbase announced on Monday that its tokenized stocks provide non-U.S. investors 24/7 access to equities backed 1:1 by real shares. However, Nasdaq, Inc. (NASDAQ:NDAQ) announced a $100 million backing of Payward to develop Nasdaq Equity Tokens set for a 2027 launch, intensifying the battle over Wall Street’s blockchain infrastructure.
Technical Analysis
From a trend perspective, COIN is still holding above its shorter moving averages, which keeps the intermediate tone constructive: it’s trading 3.9% above the 20-day SMA ($177.17), 11.1% above the 50-day SMA ($165.57), and 6.8% above the 100-day SMA ($172.20). The bigger hurdle is the long-term trend filter, with shares still 3.6% below the 200-day SMA ($190.96), a level that often decides whether rallies turn into sustained uptrends.
The moving-average stack is mixed: the 20-day SMA is above the 50-day SMA (bullish near-term), but the 50-day SMA remains below the 200-day SMA, reflecting the death cross that formed in December 2025. In practice, that combination often produces choppy rallies that need a clean reclaim of the 200-day area to reduce "sell-the-rip" behavior.
Key levels are fairly defined, and they line up with the moving-average picture:
- Key Resistance: $196
- Key Support: $152.50
COIN Stock Price Activity: Coinbase Global shares were down 7.60% at $176.91 on Tuesday, according to Benzinga Pro data.
