Intel Corp. (NASDAQ:INTC) stock is trading higher by more than 1% Tuesday after falling 5.6% in the previous session. The rebound comes even as broader risk appetite remains weak. The Nasdaq is down 0.54%, while the S&P 500 has lost 0.51%.
Monday’s decline followed calls from leaders at major artificial intelligence companies, including Anthropic and OpenAI, to slow advanced AI development over safety concerns. The debate fueled worries that slower AI development could eventually weigh on demand for chips and data center hardware.
Intel’s rebound stands out in a weak market. Only one of 11 sectors is higher, while the advance-decline ratio is near 0.1.
Technology stocks are also under pressure, with the Technology Select Sector SPDR Fund (NYSE:XLK) down 0.12%. That suggests Intel’s move reflects selective dip-buying rather than a broader sector rally.
Meanwhile, the Dow is down 0.96%, and the Russell 2000 has fallen 1.19%. Energy is the only sector in positive territory, up 1.52%.
