Apple Inc‘s (NASDAQ:AAPL) streaming segment continues to win big at award shows, a move that could justify a new price hike for consumers.
At Monday night’s Emmy Awards, the comedy-horror series "Widow’s Bay," created for Apple TV, had 14 wins. The streak helped Apple not only have the most awarded comedy for a second straight season. In 2025, the company won a total of 22 Emmy trophies. "The Studio" won 13 of those awards, with 23 nominations.
Altogether, Apple had 28 wins this year; Warner Bros. Discovery‘s (NASDAQ:WBD)HBO Max had 21; and Netflix Inc (NASDAQ:NFLX) had 16 Emmy Award wins this year, as reported by Variety.
Other Apple shows that won Emmy Awards included "Pluribus," "Margo’s Got Money Trouble," "Palm Royale," "Slow Horses," and "Mr. Scorsese."
Apple CEO Shows Off New iPhone On Red Carpet
For Apple, dominating an awards show is still relatively new. The company, best known for iPhones and MacBooks, launched its streaming segment in 2019.
"It’s an amazing night," Apple SVP Services and Health Eddy Cue told Deadline. "We started this seven years ago. We said we really want to try to make the best shows on television."
Cue stopped short of focusing on Apple beating out peer companies like Netflix and HBO Max.
"They’re incredible companies that do amazing work, and what we thought is that we could do something really special and something that unique to Apple, which was let’s not try to make the most, let’s try to make the best, and that was our number one goal."
Still, the company managed to show off a highly anticipated product at the event. New Apple CEO John Ternus walked the red carpet and demonstrated the upcoming iPhone Duo foldable smartphone to Deadline.
Emmy Success Follows Price Increase
Apple’s streaming segment recently raised prices, its fourth increase over the last four years.
The price increase comes as Apple has added more original content like Widow’s Bay and other award-winning series and also added rights to live sports like Major League Soccer, Major League Baseball and Formula 1.
Consumers now pay $14.99 per month for streaming. The platform is one of the few that still doesn’t have a lower-cost, ad-supported tier, which could be another future catalyst for bringing in new subscribers.
Here’s a look at the price history for Apple TV since launch:
- November 2019: $4.99 per month
- October 2022: $6.99 per month
- October 2023: $9.99 per month
- August 2025: $12.99 per month
- August 2026: $14.99 per month
The recent price increases likely take Apple’s streaming segment to profitability. The segment previously had annual losses with big bets on blockbuster films that didn’t have box office success.
Apple’s focus on award-winning original series and securing live sports rights has likely paid off in subscribers, renewal rates, and its ability to raise prices.
The tech giant does not break out how its streaming platform is performing, but the Apple Services segment has been one of Apple’s fastest-growing segments in recent years.
The record-breaking night for "Widow’s Bay" will get more people talking about Apple TV and could get some consumers more willing to pay the $14.99 per month to check out award-winning content.
