Critical Metals Refinery Study Projects $4.5B NPV, 55% IRR
Critical Metals said a refinery study for its proposed Romanian joint venture facility projects annual revenue of approximately $2.2 billion before operating costs, taxes, and capital recovery, with a preliminary capital expenditure estimate of $1.85 billion. Current modeling indicates an NPV10 of approximately $4.5 billion, an IRR of approximately 55%, and a projected payback period of about two years. The refinery, designed to process up to 100,000 tons per year of eudialyte concentrate, incorporates three key process innovations: multistage mixed-acid reactor additions to prevent silica gel formation, complete silica recovery designed to produce high-purity silicon dioxide powder while cutting fresh acid consumption by roughly 85%, and vacuum freeze-drying of all 19 chloride salts to produce ultra-low-moisture powders.
The company projects the silica by-product alone could generate approximately $600 million in annual revenue, with the broader silicate recovery system contributing $400 million to $600 million per year in combined value. The refinery is planned for Romania, an EU and NATO member state, which Critical Metals said supports a secure Western supply chain for materials shipped from its Tanbreez project in Greenland.
“This represents a significant evolution in the Tanbreez value proposition and reinforces our commitment to a true mine-to-metals strategy,” said Tony Sage, Executive Chairman and CEO of Critical Metals Corp. “We believe this integrated approach has the potential to establish Critical Metals Corp. as an important non-Chinese supplier of critical materials to the European and U.S. markets.”
