It’s been a bloodbath for Hunter Biden’s Laptop (LAPTOP) memecoin since its launch a week ago, far worse than that of President Donald Trump’s memecoin in its debut week.
The Glitchy LAPTOP
LAPTOP launched on Base, a Layer 2 blockchain developed by Coinbase Global Inc. (NASDAQ: COIN), at roughly $37, according to CoinMarketCap. Within minutes, it surged to a record high of $401.12, pushing its market cap to $50 billion.
However, the frenzy was short-lived.
An hour later, LAPTOP crashed by 98%, with 80% of traders losing their money. On-chain data attributed the price collapse to insider distribution rather than ordinary selling.
The coin remains under heavy selling pressure and is down more than 99% in its first week.

What’s the TRUMP Story?
The Official Trump (CRYPTO: TRUMP) memecoin was launched in January 2025, days ahead of Trump’s swearing-in.
The coin started trading at $1.20, then surged to an all-time high of $75.35 within the next two days. Just like Hunter Biden’s LAPTOP memecoin, the pump quickly turned into a dump.
TRUMP closed its first week at $28.89, netting a 2,290% return from the launch price. However, the decline from its peak has been severe, and the token has failed to reclaim lost ground.
Biden launched the memecoin, invoking the controversy surrounding his personal laptop recovered in 2020. He framed the memecoin as a symbol of resilience, redemption, and recovery.
He said that 20% of LAPTOP supply would be airdropped to wallets, including those that lost money on the TRUMP memecoin.
