Tempus AI Inc. (NASDAQ:TEM) stock fell Friday, pulling back after a sharp multi-day rally fueled by management’s upbeat reimbursement outlook.

The decline came as the broader market weakened. The Nasdaq slipped 0.09%, while the S&P 500 fell 0.47%. The Healthcare sector declined about 0.5%.

That risk-off backdrop can weigh more heavily on high-growth stocks that have rallied well above key moving averages.

Reimbursement Outlook Drove Rally

The rally accelerated after Tempus founder and CEO Eric Lefkofsky outlined potentially significant reimbursement benefits at the Morgan Stanley 24th Annual Global Healthcare Conference on Sept. 15.

According to an SEC-filed transcript, Tempus received FDA approval for the tumor-only version of its solid-tumor assay, with ADLT pricing matching the $4,500 level established for tumor-normal testing.

Beginning Jan. 1, Tempus expects to run all solid-tumor assays under that pricing structure. Lefkofsky estimated the change could add roughly $80 million to $100 million in revenue and margin benefit.

A larger opportunity could come from the company’s liquid-biopsy test. Tempus expects approval and pricing in the second half of 2027, with reimbursement potentially rising from about $3,200 currently to the mid-to-high $7,000 range.

Lefkofsky estimated that could add another $250 million to $300 million in revenue and margin benefit.

Tempus AI Technical Analysis

Despite Friday’s decline, Tempus AI remains well above its major moving averages.

The stock is about 16% above its 20-day simple moving average of $66.43. It is also roughly 35% above its 50-day SMA of $57.04.

The 50-day SMA remains above the 200-day SMA of $56.15, maintaining a bullish longer-term technical setup.

Momentum also remains positive. The MACD is above its signal line, while the histogram is positive. That suggests buyers are still defending pullbacks.

Resistance sits near $79. A sustained move above that level could strengthen the bullish setup. Meanwhile, support sits near $61.50, where buyers previously stepped in.
