Compass Therapeutics, Inc. (NASDAQ:CMPX) shares are trading lower on Tuesday as the FDA feedback raises new questions about the timing and requirements for its tovecimig program.
The move is coming even as S&P 500 futures are up 0.1%, pointing to stock-specific pressure rather than a broad risk-off tape.
CMPX Stock Drops After FDA Feedback On Tovecimig BLA Path
Compass said the FDA recommended the company run a trial demonstrating a survival benefit before submitting a BLA for tovecimig in biliary tract cancer, while Compass stated it does not believe a new trial is warranted prior to submitting a BLA.
As previously disclosed, in the Phase 2/3 COMPANION-002 study, tovecimig plus paclitaxel demonstrated a statistically significant improvement in the primary endpoint of objective response rate (ORR) of 18.0% vs. 5.3% with paclitaxel alone and a highly significant improvement in progression-free survival (PFS) in patients with BTC who had received prior treatment.
Median PFS was 4.7 vs. 2.6 months with a hazard ratio of 0.44, representing a 56% reduction in the risk of disease progression.
Overall survival (OS) analyses were confounded by both high crossover and notably prolonged survival in crossover patients randomized to the control arm, then treated with tovecimig, and therefore did not meet statistical significance.
The safety profile was generally consistent with previously reported data from prior tovecimig studies.
CMPX Technical Analysis: Key Support, Resistance And Trend
From a longer-term chart perspective, the premarket drop leaves the stock deep below its major trend gauges: about 49% below the 20-day SMA ($2.19), about 48% below the 50-day SMA ($2.16), and about 71% below the 200-day SMA ($3.82).
That kind of separation typically signals the market is still in "sell rallies" mode until price can reclaim at least the short-term averages.
Momentum also leans defensive: MACD is below its signal line and the histogram is negative, which suggests upside pressure is fading versus the prior upswing unless buyers can quickly retake that baseline. Structurally, the 50-day SMA remains below the 200-day SMA (a death cross that occurred in May), reinforcing the idea that rallies may face overhead supply.
- Key Resistance: $2.16 — aligns with the 50-day SMA, a common "first reclaim" level after sharp drawdowns
- Key Support: $1.61 — the 52-week low zone, which becomes the nearby reference if weakness persists
CMPX Price Action: Compass Therapeutics shares were down 29.40% at $1.28 at the time of publication on Tuesday. The stock is trading at a new 52-week low, according to Benzinga Pro data.
