Podcaster and host of “The Joe Rogan Experience,” Joe Rogan criticized what he described as excessive brake-dust emissions from EVs, including his own Tesla Inc. (NASDAQ:TSLA), but Tesla influencer and investor Sawyer Merritt pushed back on the claim.

Brake Dust Criticism

In a post on the social media platform X, Merritt took a quote from The Joe Rogan Experience podcast episode #2556. “I have a Tesla. I love it. But there’s also [the] reality of brake dust. It’s way more brake dust with those things,” Rogan said on the podcast.

Merritt disagreed with Rogan’s take, saying that EVs did not emit more brake dust “because you rarely need to use your brakes in the first place,” he said. The influencer added that the regenerative braking technology enables drivers to use “one-pedal driving” and that brakes “actually last longer on EVs” due to one-pedal driving.

Notably, regenerative braking does not physically use the brakes on a vehicle. Instead, the electric motor is essentially run in reverse when the driver takes their foot off the pedal as a way to recapture energy that could be lost in the form of heat when applying brakes.

Tesla Gears Up for Roadster Launch

Tesla is gearing up to host the launch event for the elusive Roadster high-performance vehicle on October 1st, with CEO Elon Musk saying that the unveil would be “guaranteed” to excite people. Tesla also reopened taking reservations for the Roadster, charging $50,000 to prospective buyers.

Grok in Tesla EVs

On Tuesday, Musk shared that the automaker’s EVs also came with Space Exploration Technologies Corp.‘s (NASDAQ:SPCX) Grok AI functionality, being able to check inboxes, calendars and more. Motoring journalist James May, who previously hosted shows like “Top Gear,” shared his experience with Grok’s voice assistant on Tesla vehicles, calling the bot “insincere.”

Price Action: Tesla shares declined 0.34% to $378.81 during overnight trading on Wednesday.
