Sandisk Corp. (NASDAQ:SNDK) stock traded lower Monday as investors weighed broader semiconductor weakness against a memory market still benefiting from tight supply and rising AI-driven demand.
Sandisk fell nearly 3% in premarket trading as memory pricing remained in focus and risk appetite weakened. S&P 500 futures declined 0.4%.
The pullback came alongside broader weakness in semiconductor stocks rather than a new Sandisk-specific development.
Micron Technology Inc. (NASDAQ:MU) also traded lower ahead of its Sept. 30 earnings report.
Memory Supply Remains Tight
BMO analyst Harsh Kumar expects the memory industry to remain undersupplied as AI demand increases across DRAM, high-bandwidth memory and NAND.
Kumar said one distributor estimated demand at roughly three times available supply. He expects supply and demand to remain out of balance throughout 2027 and potentially into part of 2028.
Rising HBM production is also tightening conventional DRAM availability because HBM requires roughly three times the die area, Kumar said. At the same time, agentic AI applications are increasing demand for server DRAM such as DDR5.
Kumar expects NAND flash to become the next major supply bottleneck and potentially experience the strongest price increases next year.
Adding capacity will take time. Kumar said new fabrication plants typically require two to three years to build and cost about $8 billion to $10 billion.
