Meta Platforms Inc. (NASDAQ:META) is exploring transaction fees and paid subscriptions as potential ways to monetize its artificial intelligence service, Muse. Meta President and Vice Chairman Dina Powell McCormick outlined the revenue model during an interview with “Mad Money” host Jim Cramer.
Transaction Fees and Subscriptions
When asked by host Cramer how Muse generates revenue for Meta, McCormick stated that the company is exploring multiple monetization pathways for the application. She noted that Muse currently assists users in reducing costs, creating a framework for transaction-based charges.
“Muse right now helps a lot of people save money,” McCormick said. “And so we’re thinking through, as Mark described last week, the potential of taking a fee when we help you save money.”
McCormick added that increased user engagement could also lead to recurring pricing models. “So the more you use it, we may have opportunities, obviously, for subscriptions as well,” she said.
She highlighted Meta’s reach of 3.6 billion daily active platform users and 200 million small business owners, noting that artificial intelligence products coming out of Meta’s lab serve to make its core business stronger.
Expanding to Small Businesses
During the broadcast, Meta officially launched Muse for small businesses. McCormick stated that the product allows small business owners to handle back-office work by managing cash flow, inventory, website design, and direct customer communications.
McCormick explained that Muse operates as an active agent rather than a passive chat tool. “It’s not just giving you back research or feedback,” McCormick said.
“It’s actually acting on behalf of what I’m saying,” noting that the application can carry out commercial transactions on a user’s behalf, with approval required for sensitive actions such as purchases. Meta is integrating the tool with external partners, including Shopify Inc. (NASDAQ:SHOP), Salesforce Inc.’s (NYSE:CRM) Slack, and Walmart Inc. (NASDAQ:WMT), allowing users to automate inventory purchases and customer interactions.
App Traction and System Safety
McCormick reported that Muse reached the number one spot on the App Store with millions of downloads. Addressing privacy and safety concerns, she stated that Meta delayed the launch by 30 days to ensure the product was safe, encrypted, and bug-free before release.
