Shares of AST SpaceMobile Inc. (NASDAQ:ASTS) are volatile Thursday morning following a 5% gain in the month of September. Here’s what investors need to know.
- AST SpaceMobile stock is moving in negative territory. Why is ASTS stock falling?
September Momentum Driven by Satellite Deployments and Carrier Validation
The stock’s 5% move throughout September was powered by a series of operational milestones and competitive validations, reinforcing AST SpaceMobile’s positioning as a primary provider of space-based direct-to-device cellular broadband.
Key catalysts across the month included major validation from its lead carrier partner. Late Tuesday, AT&T CEO John Stankey publicly challenged SpaceX’s competing mobile plan as unworkable, effectively bolstering confidence in AST SpaceMobile’s partner-first network model.
On September 30, AST SpaceMobile announced that its next three commercial spacecraft, BlueBirds 14, 15 and 16, had departed its Texas manufacturing facility and were en route to Cape Canaveral for an upcoming launch. That same day, it was revealed that CEO Abel Avellan had met with FCC Chairman Brendan Carr to pitch wider direct-to-device spectrum access, further highlighting the company’s aggressive regulatory push.
These milestones reflect a growing urgency to secure off-grid cellular coverage and keep the company on track to launch commercial beta service in the United States by late 2026.
Adding to the bullish tailwinds, Wall Street analysts continued to back the long-term potential of AST’s massive satellite constellation. On Sept. 2, Berenberg analyst Michael Filatov initiated coverage on AST SpaceMobile with a Buy rating and a $92 price target.
Launch Schedules Versus Underlying Customer Demand
While typical pre-revenue cash burn and execution risks briefly weighed on shares at points during the month, analysts emphasize that operational friction remains a matter of launch logistics rather than any pullback in customer demand.
A primary constraint going forward is launch throughput, AST SpaceMobile needs to get approximately 45 BlueBird satellites into orbit by early 2027 to ensure continuous service across the U.S., Europe and Japan.
