NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA) is trending Friday after a week that included a record-breaking buyback authorization, a new AI safety platform and strong earnings from supplier Micron that lifted semiconductor stocks broadly.

A Record Buyback Authorization

On September 28, NVIDIA’s Board of Directors authorized an additional $150 billion under the company’s existing share repurchase program, raising the total remaining authorization to $235 billion — the largest share repurchase authorization increase in history. The company expects to execute the remaining program through fiscal year 2028.

“NVIDIA’s growth is being driven by a once-in-a-generation platform shift to AI and accelerated computing,” said Jensen Huang, Founder and CEO of NVIDIA. “Our cash generation gives us the capacity to invest in the technologies that advance this transformation and return capital to shareholders.”

Launching the Open Agent Safety Platform

NVIDIA also launched on Monday its Open Agent Safety Platform, consisting of OpenShell open-source software and the Sentry reference system design, intended to provide full-stack governance and control across the software and hardware running AI agents. OpenShell provides a secure runtime boundary on NVIDIA Vera CPUs that traces all agent actions and enforces policy, while Sentry adds an out-of-band watchdog running on NVIDIA BlueField-4 DPUs that can quarantine agents attempting to move outside their boundaries within milliseconds.

Industry partners joining the initiative include Anthropic, Cisco, CrowdStrike, Dell Technologies, Figure, HPE, Hugging Face, JPMorganChase, Microsoft, Palantir, Palo Alto Networks, Perplexity, Red Hat, Salesforce, SAP, Scale AI, ServiceNow, and SpaceXAI.

Micron’s Earnings Lift the Sector

Separately, Micron, one of NVIDIA’s key memory chip suppliers, reported fiscal fourth-quarter results on September 30 that beat expectations on both the top and bottom lines, with adjusted EPS of $33.42 against a consensus estimate of $31.45 and revenue up sharply year-over-year. The strong print reinforced confidence that AI infrastructure demand remains intact, lifting shares of NVIDIA, AMD and Intel higher on Thursday.
