Dow Gains Over 100 Points; Home Depot Posts Upbeat Earnings

U.S. stocks traded mixed this morning, with the Dow Jones index gaining more than 100 points on Tuesday.

Following the market opening Tuesday, the Dow traded up 0.27% to 48,935.82 while the NASDAQ fell 0.39% to 22,538.28. The S&P 500 also fell, dropping, 0.30% to 6,817.20.

Leading and Lagging Sectors

Consumer discretionary shares gained by 0.4% on Tuesday.

In trading on Tuesday, communication services stocks fell by 0.9%.

Top Headline

Home Depot (NYSE:HD) reported upbeat earnings for the fourth quarter on Tuesday.

The company posted quarterly earnings of $2.72 per share which beat the analyst consensus estimate of $2.54 per share. The company reported quarterly sales of $38.198 billion which beat the analyst consensus estimate of $38.119 billion.

Equities Trading UP
           

  • Ten-League International Holdings Limited (NASDAQ:TLIH) shares shot up 43% to $0.4555 after the company issued FY25 guidance.
  • Shares of Larimar Therapeutics, Inc. (NASDAQ:LRMR) got a boost, surging 41% to $3.9600 after the company announced FDA breakthrough therapy designation for Nomlabofusp in FA and reiterated planned BLA submission in June 2026.
  • Palvella Therapeutics, Inc. (NASDAQ:PVLA) shares were also up, gaining 36% to $119.88 after the company announced topline results from the Phase 3 SELVA study of QTORIN 3.9% rapamycin anhydrous gel for the treatment of microcystic lymphatic malformations.

Equities Trading DOWN

  • Allurion Technologies Inc. (NASDAQ:ALUR) shares dropped 37% to $1.1080. The company announced a $3 million warrant exercise at $1.15 per share.
  • Shares of DMC Global Inc. (NASDAQ:BOOM) were down 30% to $6.10 after the company reported mixed fourth-quarter financial results and issued first-quarter sales guidance below estimates.
  • Signing Day Sports, Inc. (NYSE:SGN) was down, falling 20% to $0.6502.

Commodities

In commodity news, oil traded up 0.3% to $66.53 while gold traded down 1.5% at $5,147.30.

Silver traded up 0.5% to $87.000 on Tuesday, while copper rose 1.9% to $5.8890.

Euro zone

European shares were mixed today. The eurozone's STOXX 600 rose 0.34%, while Spain's IBEX 35 Index fell 0.27%. London's FTSE 100 rose 0.19%, Germany's DAX gained 0.09% and France's CAC 40 rose 0.33% during the session.

Asia Pacific Markets

Asian markets closed mixed on Monday, with Japan's Nikkei 225 gaining 0.87%, Hong Kong's Hang Seng index falling 1.82%, China's Shanghai Composite gaining 0.87% and India's BSE Sensex dipping 1.17%.

Economics

  • The FHFA house price index rose 0.1% in December compared to a revised 0.7% gain in November.
  • The S&P Cotality Case-Shiller home price index increased 1.4% year-over-year in December, matching the previous month's pace.
