Pope Leo XIV got a first-hand look at the Ferrari N.V. (NYSE:RACE) Luce EV as the Italian automaker marked a shift in its powertrain strategy.
Pope Leo X Ferrari Luce
In a video posted on the social media platform X by influencer Sawyer Merritt on Tuesday, the Pope was seen inspecting the Luce alongside Ferrari officials. “Is this the first four-door Ferrari?” the Pope asked officials, to which they responded that it is the first “five-seater” vehicle from Ferrari.
Pope Leo was briefed on the Luce’s drive modes as well as its Formula 1 underpinnings during his visit. The Luce was touted by officials to produce over 1,040 hp. He was joined by Ferrari’s Executive Chairman, John Elkann.
The EV has received criticism from experts, including investor Ross Gerber, who is the co-founder of Gerber Kawasaki. The investor, in a post on X on Tuesday, called the Luce “ugly” with “pathetic” interiors.

Ferrari Luce Reveal Sends Stock Tumbling
Ferrari shares listed on the New York Stock Exchange tumbled following the Luce reveal, with shares down nearly 5% during the after-hours trading on Tuesday.
The Luce EV was hailed by Ferrari’s CEO, Benedetto Vigna, who, in a press release, called the vehicle a result of more than “60 new patents” and that the vehicle was at the “heart of an ecosystem of collaborations with outstanding technology partners.”
For reference, the Luce is a four-door EV that has been designed by former Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) design head Jony Ive and his collective LoveFrom. The EV will retail at $640,000 and has four motors connected to a 122 kWh battery to offer a range of 330 miles on a single charge.

According to Benzinga Edge Rankings, RACE provides excellent Growth and Quality, but fails to offer a favorable price trend in the Short, Medium and Long term.
