The trading activity of members of Congress continues to be closely followed by investors. The recent selling activity of a member involving NVIDIA Corp (NASDAQ:NVDA) could draw attention, given the size of the company and the trades, until investors hear how much the senator paid.
Senator Sells Nvidia Stock
Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.) recently disclosed several stock trades, as reported by the Benzinga Government Trades page.
Among the transactions were the following:
- May 8, 2026: Sold $100,000 to $250,000 in Nvidia stock
- May 8, 2026: Sold $100,000 to $250,000 in Nvidia stock
Both transactions were listed as partial sales, meaning the senator still owns at least some Nvidia stock.
The trading history of Whitehouse shows that he has been a long-time owner of Nvidia stock and has been selling in recent months.
Whitehouse has reported sales of $1,000 to $15,000 and $15,000 to $50,000 two previous times in 2026 and four previous times in 2025. The latest sales mark the largest amounts in Nvidia stock for the senator.
Now here's where things get fun. Take a look at the dates that Whitehouse previously disclosed buying Nvidia stock:
- Feb. 15, 2018: Bought $1,000 to $15,000 NVDA shares
- Oct. 23, 2018: Bought $1,000 to $15,000 NVDA shares
- Dec. 28, 2018: Bought $1,000 to $15,000 NVDA shares
- May 17, 2019: Bought $1,000 to $15,000 NVDA shares
Then, take a look at what the highest split-adjusted price was for NVDA on each of those dates and the returns since below, based on a $214.75 price for NVDA stock currently:
- Feb. 15, 2018: $6.21, +3,358.1%
- Oct. 23, 2018: $5.60, +3,734.8%
- Dec. 28, 2018: $3.43, +6,160.9%
- May 17, 2019: $4.09, +5,150.6%
Whitehouse's previous purchases of Nvidia stock have paid off nicely, and his latest sales have taken profits in one of his older positions with large gains.
Whitehouse's Trading Activity
Whitehouse has made over 800 stock transactions since 2014, according to data from Quiver Quantitative.
Previously active in buying and selling stocks, the last several years have featured almost all selling and no buying.
The senator has completed over $12 million in stock transactions since 2014.
Many investors likely wish they had invested in Nvidia stock when the senator did, as well as the patience to wait until 2025 and now to take gains.
