Count Binface, a novelty candidate in the UK, released his "manifesto" on Monday for the special election for a parliamentary seat, pledging not to take large donations from cryptocurrency billionaires.
Binface Takes a Jab at Farage
The parody candidate posted 20 pledges on X for the upcoming Clacton elections, triggered after the resignation of Member of Parliament Nigel Farage amid scrutiny over undeclared donations to the tune of £5 million ($6.65 million).
One of the pledges addressed this directly.
“I will not accept £5million gifts from crypto billionaires (on Earth),” Binface wrote.
The seat will go to the polls on Aug. 13. Binface called it a “once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” urging voters to "clean up Clacton" on what he called on what he called "Bin Day."
The Politics Behind
Farage resigned to trigger a by-election and win back the constituency, according to the BBC. He is under parliamentary investigation over undeclared gifts from cryptocurrency investor Christopher Harborne, a major donor to his Reform Party.
Farage, known for his close ties with President Donald Trump and his frequent praise for him, denies any wrongdoing.
Interestingly, one of Binface’s manifesto commitments was to bar legislators from resigning and then standing in the by-election their departure causes.
Meanwhile, on Polygon (CRYPTO: POL)-based Polymarket, Farage was still heavily favored to win re-election at 96%, while Binface stood at just 4%.
Who is Count Binface
The person behind Count Binface is comedian and writer Jonathan Harvey. He wears a bin-shaped helmet, a silver cape, and a costume while mocking candidates’ policies and encouraging people to vote.
Binface has stood against former UK prime ministers, including Boris Johnson, Rishi Sunak and Theresa May.
