Elon Musk became the world’s first trillionaire earlier this year with the SpaceX (NASDAQ:SPCX) IPO adding to his net wealth. While Musk’s net worth has dropped with a declining stock price for both SpaceX and Tesla Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA), he remains head and shoulders above other billionaires.
Elon Musk Wealth vs. Larry Ellison Wealth
Over the last 12 months, only one man has been able to claim they were worth more than Musk. That title belongs to Oracle Corp (NYSE:ORCL) co-founder Larry Ellison, who for one day in September 2025 was worth more than Musk.
A huge rise in the value of Oracle stock saw Ellison worth $400 billion, passing Musk’s $385 billion net worth at the time.
The leaderboard change lasted only one day, with Musk the world’s richest person for 364 of the 365 days in 2025.
While SpaceX and Tesla stock drops have taken Musk’s wealth from $1.3 trillion to $702 billion, his net worth remains positive in 2026, and he is now significantly ahead of Ellison.
Musk ranks first overall at $702 billion, with a gain of $82.8 billion in 2026 according to Bloomberg. That gain also ranks first on the list.
Ranking first for the biggest net worth drop in 2026 is Ellison, who has lost $69.0 billion of his wealth this year. Ellison now ranks seventh on the billionaires list at $178 billion.
This means that Musk is now 4 times richer than Ellison, a far cry from being ranked behind the Oracle co-founder for one day last year.
Oracle stock is down 34% year-to-date in 2026 and down over 62% from its all-time high in September 2025.
Ellison and Musk are forever connected, with the Oracle co-founder previously serving on the electric vehicle company’s board of directors and owning a stake in the company. Ellison’s $1 billion investment in Tesla in 2018 served as a key financial commitment for the billionaire and the company at the time.
Musk’s Net Worth History
Musk became a billionaire at the age of 41 and later became the world’s richest person thanks to Tesla’s share price.
A drop in Tesla’s share price in 2022 took Musk’s wealth down so much that he was awarded a Guinness World Record for the biggest one-year drop in net worth.
After being passed by Bernard Arnault and falling to the second-richest person in the world, Musk regained the title of richest man in the world in 2023 thanks to a recovery in Tesla’s share price.
Musk’s wealth increased by $92.0 billion in 2023 in one of the biggest one-year jumps ever, ending the year worth $229 billion.
The Tesla CEO ended 2025 worth an estimated $619 billion, according to Bloomberg.
There is also a new pay package from Tesla that could pay Musk nearly $1 trillion in compensation if he reaches certain milestones, which could significantly add to his wealth over time.
Ellison’s Net Worth History
Ellison owns 41% of Oracle, a stake that has been boosted thanks to the company’s aggressive buybacks in recent years. Ellison owned 22% of the company 15 years ago, but the buybacks and minimal selling have boosted his stake, according to Forbes.
Along with his stake in Oracle, Ellison has a stake in Tesla and owns around 50% of Paramount Skydance (NASDAQ:PSKY). Ellison helped finance the merger between Paramount and Skydance, a company run by his son David Ellison.
Ellison has regularly ranked among the richest people in the world, ending 2025 ranked fifth at $247 billion. The billionaire added $55.2 billion to his wealth last year as Oracle’s stock price rose.
