Strategy Inc. (NASDAQ:MSTR) sold 1,638 Bitcoin (CRYPTO: BTC) for $104.7 million last week, reducing total holdings to 842,138 BTC as MSTR trades down 41% year-to-date.
What Did Strategy Actually Do Last Week?
Strategy filed an 8-K with the SEC Monday confirming it sold the Bitcoin between July 27 and August 2 at an average price of $63,957 per coin, according to the filing.
Proceeds funded preferred stock dividend payments and repurchases of STRC preferred shares.
Alongside the Bitcoin sale, Strategy sold 3,011,361 MSTR shares for $290.6 million.
Of those proceeds, $250 million went to boost the USD reserve to $4 billion, $28.9 million repurchased STRC stock, and $81.2 million went toward buying back 912,143 STRC shares at market. The remaining $11.7 million was added to cash.
The company also announced it will maintain STRC’s annual dividend rate at 12%, saying it does not intend to recommend a reduction until the shares trade consistently near their stated $100 value.
Total Bitcoin holdings now stand at 842,138 BTC worth roughly $52.6 billion, purchased at an average of $75,419 per coin for a total cost of $63.5 billion.
However, the position carries roughly $10.9 billion in unrealized losses at current prices.
What Did Saylor’s Sunday Post Signal?
Michael Saylor posted a Bitcoin tracker chart to X on Sunday with the caption “Bitcoin Drive engaged.”
His Sunday posts have historically preceded Bitcoin purchase announcements, though they have grown more cryptic in recent weeks as Strategy’s capital allocation has shifted toward cash building and preferred stock management over accumulation.
Will MSTR Hold $90?
MSTR trades 3.3% below its 20-day SMA, 17.6% below its 50-day SMA, and 41.2% below its 200-day SMA, keeping the longer-term structure firmly bearish.
The death cross formed in October 2025 continues to frame any bounce as a counter-trend move until price can reclaim those higher moving averages.
MACD sits above its signal line with a positive histogram, pointing to easing downside pressure even as the bigger trend stays heavy.
Key levels for MSTR:
- $104.50 — resistance where rebounds have stalled
- $90 — round-number support just above the recent low area, the line traders are watching
