Shares of Cipher Digital Inc. (NASDAQ:CIFR) are sliding Tuesday afternoon, caught in a broader market pullback that dragged down high-valuation growth equities.
The downturn comes amid rising benchmark Treasury yields, which heightened fears over sustained borrowing costs across capital-intensive sectors.

Rising Treasury Yields Weigh on Valuations
A primary driver for Tuesday’s drop is the sharp increase in interest rates, as higher long-term yields increase equity discount models and make corporate debt financing more expensive.
For infrastructure developers like Cipher, expanding data center capacity requires substantial capital commitments, leaving investors increasingly sensitive to shifting macroeconomic conditions.
The market also continues to digest Cipher’s recent second-quarter financial update. While management highlighted operational progress, such as accelerating capacity delivery at its Black Pearl facility and securing a option for a 900-megawatt site near San Antonio, the company reported a quarterly net loss of $267.5 million alongside lower Bitcoin-mining revenues.
Although Cipher boasts an expanding contracted revenue backlog and continues its pivot toward high-performance computing and AI data centers for hyperscale tenants, potentially elevated project interest expenses and massive capital expenditures keep the stock vulnerable to macroeconomic shocks.
