Western Digital Corp. (NASDAQ:WDC) stock rose more than 3% in Tuesday’s premarket trading as risk appetite remained firm. Nasdaq futures gained 0.86%, while S&P 500 futures rose 0.42%.

Western Digital shares are trying to stabilize after a pullback pushed the stock below several short- and medium-term trend lines.

The broader market’s strength is supporting Tuesday’s rebound. However, the stock must reclaim key moving averages to signal a more durable recovery.

Technical Analysis

At $449.20, Western Digital traded 7.3% below its 20-day simple moving average of $483.44. It also traded 18% below its 50-day SMA of $546.55.

In addition, the stock stood 9.5% below its 100-day SMA of $495.18. These levels could create resistance during future rebounds.

Still, the longer-term trend remains positive. Western Digital traded 24.6% above its 200-day SMA of $359.69. Its 50-day SMA also remained above the 200-day average, suggesting the broader uptrend remains intact.

However, the 20-day SMA has fallen below the 50-day SMA. This bearish crossover shows that recent momentum has weakened.

The moving average convergence divergence indicator also remained below its signal line. Its negative histogram suggests buyers have lost some control.

Critical Levels

Western Digital faces resistance near $525. A break above that level could help the stock move toward its 50-day SMA.

Support sits near $430.50. A move below that level could expose the stock to a deeper pullback.

Western Digital has gained 449.58% over the past 12 months. That sharp rally puts the current decline into perspective. Traders are now watching whether the retreat is a healthy reset or the start of a larger reversal.

The stock reached a recent swing high in June before falling to an August swing low. Those two points define the trading range investors are watching.

Analyst Outlook

The stock trades at a price-to-earnings ratio of 16.2. It carries a consensus Buy rating. Its average price forecast stands at $649.79.

Citigroup maintained a Buy rating on Aug. 7 but lowered its price forecast to $740. TD Cowen maintained a Buy rating on Aug. 6 and raised its forecast to $540. UBS maintained a Neutral rating and lowered its forecast to $525 on the same day.

Benzinga Edge Rankings

Western Digital has a Momentum score of 99.02 and a Quality score of 96.77. Its Growth score stands at 99.71, placing it among the strongest growth names in the model.

However, its Value score is only 6.28. That suggests the stock does not appear cheap, even after the recent pullback.

Overall, the Benzinga Edge scorecard points to strong momentum, growth and quality. However, the stock’s near-term trend remains under pressure.

Long-term bulls will watch whether Western Digital can hold $430.50 and reclaim its 20-day and 50-day moving averages.

Top ETF Exposure

Because Western Digital is a major holding in these funds, large ETF inflows or outflows could trigger additional buying or selling of the stock.
