Strategy Inc. (NASDAQ:MSTR) stock is surging on Tuesday primarily due to a price forecast upgrade from Canaccord Genuity, a newly created $2 billion liquidity pool, and momentum from a sweeping rebound in Bitcoin (CRYPTO: BTC). The Nasdaq is up 0.52%, while the S&P 500 has gained 0.24%, and Technology is the leading sector with a 0.7% gain—supporting a bid for higher-beta names.
On Tuesday, Canaccord Genuity maintained a Buy rating on Strategy and raised its price forecast from $130 to $175.
Capital Raise and Liquidity Pool
Strategy raised $2 billion through stock sales between Aug. 17 and Aug. 23, according to a Monday 8-K filing. The company sold 18.26 million MSTR stock units, allocating $300 million to its USD Reserve, $136.4 million to repurchase 1.43 million STRC preferred shares and $1.59 billion to a new liquidity pool called USD Cash.
Management explained that USD Cash allows flexible deployment for any treasury purpose, unlike the restricted USD Reserve. Strategy now holds $6.69 billion in total dollar liquidity.
Strategy made no Bitcoin trades during the week, maintaining 840,447 BTC acquired at an average price of $75,385.
Cryptocurrency technical analyst Nik noted in his Substack outlook that Bitcoin’s 20% weekly surge off the $64,500 moving average was decisive, but $83,000 remains key to confirm a new bull market. “All good things happen above the anchored VWAP from ATH,” Nik wrote.
Technical Analysis
From a trend perspective, the stock is stretched above its shorter-term baselines—trading 25.2% above the 20-day SMA ($101.30) and 27% above the 50-day SMA ($99.89)—which often signals strong near-term momentum but also raises the odds of sharper pullbacks if buyers cool off. At the same time, it’s still trading 11.1% below the 200-day SMA ($142.69), leaving the longer-term trend-repair story incomplete.
MACD is the cleaner momentum lens right now: it’s above its signal line and the histogram is positive, which points to improving upside pressure versus the prior downswing.
- Key Resistance: $136.50 — a nearby pivot area where rebounds can stall before the stock can make a cleaner push toward the 200-day zone
- Key Support: $118.50 — a nearby level to watch if momentum fades, sitting close enough to act as the next "line in the sand" for dip-buyers
MSTR Stock Price Activity: Strategy shares were up 3.66% at $127.12 at the time of publication on Tuesday, according to Benzinga Pro data.
