Pudgy Penguins (PENGU) has staged a sharp rally in recent days, leaving several higher-profile meme coins behind.
PENGU Takes the Lead
PENGU surged nearly 38% to become the sixth-largest cryptocurrency gainer over the last seven days. The native token of the popular NFT brand Pudgy Penguins is now up 16% year-to-date.
The memecoin surged to a nearly five-month high of $0.0109 during this period before retracing on Wednesday.

Interest has grown after Pudgy Penguins announced multiple events at Korea Blockchain Week in Seoul, featuring arcade games, claw machines, exclusive merch, food and drinks. The event takes place from Sep. 29 to Oct. 1.
Broader speculative momentum in memecoins has also contributed to the rally as the market priced in the SEC’s push to build a regulatory framework for cryptocurrencies.
Dogecoin, Shiba Inu Fall Behind
Frog-themed Pepe (CRYPTO: PEPE) trailed PENGU with impressive gains of 27% last week.
Dogecoin (CRYPTO: DOGE) and Shiba Inu (CRYPTO: SHIB), the two largest meme coins by market capitalization, jumped 15.90% and 14.90%, respectively, last week.
